about

"Slow-building grandeur with plenty of sudden left turns."
-- The Onion

"Pulverizing and fascinating."
-- San Francisco Bay Guardian

"Beautiful, haunting, and very atmospheric. From the opening to the end, it’s an incredible journey of sound.”
-- KALX Berkeley

"A mix of classical brilliance and rock and roll at it’s best. Vast and beautiful sounds crafted with the intention to blow you mind. I’d say Signs of Life is an ambient masterpiece"
-- NeuFutur Magazine

"A marvellous, esoteric vision."
-- A Limerick Ox

"This is the kind of music that just begs to be analyzed and examined. And the music is so expressive and intense; I can only wonder what this band follows this with."
-- Delusions of Adequacy

"Exceptionally introspective stuff. Some candy for the frontal lobes."
-- Aiding & Abetting

"A dynamic and cinematic fusion of classical influences and instrumental rock music. They truly make music that's epic in a introspective, inner view sort of way. It's dramatic, emotional and deeply touching."
-- Pop Stereo

"Far from being merely a simulacra or even a combination of styles, an altogether more intriguing prospect, one which runs a gamut of styles and genres. You’re never quite sure what’s around the corner, but you like it ALL."
-- dB Magazine

"The music sublimely enters your mind and twists your thoughts long after the music has finished – almost like a David Lynch movie."
-- The Dwarf

"It’s clear their goal is to step away from the norm, to push boundaries and create the uncreated. No mean feat but they seem to have mastered the art of taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary."
- Mediasearch

"If you like your music to challenge you, this is it."
-- Reverb Magazine

"With sprawling song structures and languidly inexorable forward momentum, like a river that breaks a mountain, Beaten invokes the grandeur of eternity."
- Denver Westword, Tom Murphy

"Beaten by Them transcend classification with fearless guitar- and cello-driven sonic experiments that are by turns moody, majestic and chaotic"
-- Isthmus, Madison

"Remember how you thought apocalyptic post-rock had run its course and was no longer a viable genre? Remember thinking that scene in 28 Days Later was both its pinnacle and its death knell? Well, I remember. I also remember taking it all back after hearing this Australian band’s ominous debut"
-- Stephen M. Deusner, Blurt Magazine
